The Group Treatment

After looking at each other’s treatment, we decided to go for my one (Varsha), Dead Photo. As a group, we changed a few things around, taking into account which actors we have. Originally, the idea was to have a husband and wife; however, we couldn't get hold of any volunteer to be the husband as we are an all girls group. So, we decided to make the relationship between the victim, and the hero, a sisterly one. This is our group treatment:
Storyline for the whole film
Mary witnesses a murder committed by Jane, who is psychologically ill. In order to prevent Mary from opening her mouth about Jane’s previous murder, she kills her. Her sister, Suzan, seeks revenge from the murderer, and also ends up psychologically ill, killing anyone she suspects. At the end of the film, Suzan discovers that the murderer is her very own dearest friend, whom she has been friends with since childhood. She then kills her friend before killing herself.
Storyline for the opening of the thriller
A woman is being stalked by a mysterious woman in a building. She is seen walking across a bridge, through a corridor, down the stairs, and down another block of stairs. She reaches a dead end, where the door at the bottom of the stairs is locked. Distracted, by looking at her phone, she trips on the stairs, only to make the stalkers aim easier. The stalker approaches her, and ends her life by strangling her.
The woman’s sister is shown in her bedroom, waking up after having a dream of the murder of her sister. She turns to look at a picture of herself with her sister, first expressing sadness, then revealing anger. She looks up and says: “You didn’t deserve this”. She then walks down to the kitchen, towards the knife rack. She picks up a knife and says: “I’m gonna’ find you! I’m gonna’ kill you! Just the way you killed my sister!”
The intended effect on the target audience
The audience should feel a sense of fear during the first scene, as there will be a buildup of the conventions of a thriller during this scene, sending a rush of adrenaline. During the second scene, where the sister is first introduced, the audience should feel empathy for the character, and, in some sense, also feel fearful towards the end of the scene where she is shown with a knife, showing devious anger.
The character analysis
Hero (protagonist) - the hero known as Suzan is related to the victim, Mary, as sisters. As they live together they are very well bonded, which caused the up rise of anger and revenge in Suzan when she found out about the death of Mary.
Victim - the victim, Mary had links with both the hero and the villain. The link between her and the villain is what she had witnessed the villain do; this however was the main reason for her death. The unjust act of her killing brings out the darker side to the hero.
Villain - the villain known as Jane is a mentally ill person who has a lust for killing silently and with no emotion, almost as if it is normal for her. After targeting her victim and finding out who she is, Jane stalks Mary and tries to kill her in order to stop her from telling the authorities. However she does not realize that she has made a new enemy; referring to Mary's sister, Suzan.
