Storyline for the opening of the thriller
A woman is being chased by a mysterious man dressed in black (hiding his identity) in a dark corridor. She is shown running through a glass bridge within the building, and down a block of stairs. She runs out the door, running under the bridge, the opposite way she came from. She reaches a dead end, and so turns into a dark room, tripping before entering. The villain grabs the woman and in an evil voice says “IF I CAN’T HAVE YOU, NO ONE CAN!” the woman then hits the villain who then grabs the woman and strangles her.

The woman’s husband is shown in his bedroom. He wakes up after his dream of the murder of his wife and is seen to be anger. He turns to look at a photo on his bedside table, of himself and his wife before she was murdered and says “I miss you so much. Everyday feels wrong without you”. He takes out his mobile phone and looks at a video of him and his wife full of sadness. He then looks up showing anger in his face and says “You didn’t deserve this” and then walks to the kitchen. He picks up a knife and says “I’m gonna’ find you! I’m gonna’ make you suffer! Just the way my wife did!”
The intended effect on the target audience
The audience should feel a sense of fear during the first scene as there will be a build up of the conventions of a thriller during this scene, sending a rush of adrenaline. During the second scene, where the husband is first introduced, the audience should feel empathy for the character, and, in some sense, also feel fearful towards the end of the scene where he is shown with a knife, showing devious anger.
